I just freaked out tonight cuz i feel so unprotected

well i am not sure on your legal status if your parents immagrated here… I know if you’re born in USA you’re most likely a citzen, and with that said…

I can’t answer the question about where you can get insurance: I know if you’re of the age to be insured (usu. over 18) and you have a car you usu. need insurance unless you are in Alabama… So…if you are working, you would do like everyone else: just go online to a site or two, shop prices for insurance (and if you’re young, own no houses or assets, money in bank, then you only need the basic protection limits [10/20/10, something like that, call 1800PROGRESSIVE to ask questions: I work for them and usu. the customer service department is really good at answering ALL questions, also can give you multiple quotes from other companies along with themselves…]) Once you sign up for insurance for your car, just do not let it default. I’m 24 and ins is high at younger ages: I’ve found that Geico is the cheapest for me. or try a company called Amica cause they have many qualification rules, but if you qualify, they have REALLY GOOD RATES!!

On health insurance: I recently went thru some medical issues myself and learned a LOT, even with insurance: you can google for &quot:health insurance individual&quot: and see links from me below: it will price you for health insurance: just make sure before buying that you call the company and ask if it covers medical dental and also, mental health just incase… Make sure you get a deductible you can afford…

AND…if worse comes to worse, like if your teeth are hurting soooo sooo bad, or for any other medical problem, you can just walk into the ER: so far as i know, they cannot refuse to treat anyone. If the bill is due later and you cannot pay it, ask the hospital for a &quot:medical hardship&quot: or &quot:charity papers&quot: and sometimes, pending their own review, they will cancel some or all of your medical bills…
Also, if you don’t get insurance and need med. help, you can contact your local health department: you can look in the yellow pages or else google the name of the county you live in (like me, Orange county) and like, &quot:Orange county health department&quot: and you can go there: it’s like medical welfare if you need help but don’t have coverage…

AND…if for some reason none of those work other than running into the ER as needed, don’t sweat the bills too much: I used to be a debt collector, and through that job, learned that when you have MEDICAL charges, they can be sent to collections and people will call and mail letters and all that, but if you later on go to buy a house/car/etc and the lender sees medical (most credit reports to general businesses don’t show it on there to begin with) debts unpaid, they are not supposed to be allowed to hold those debts against a rating/credit application

oh, and PS. You say you don’t mind working: if you possibly can afford health insurance *through* your job, by all means, check for your coverage from your own pocket versus the $$$ they would charge you for health ins. through your job. Take whatever is cheaper!! 🙂

Good luck! and email if any more questions!

YES, this is very wise. Health Insurance is very important! it’s a good thing you are thinking about it now because you would be screwed if something happened to you. You should have gotten Health Insurance a long time ago. If you are working, your employer will provide it to you at a small cost (deducted from your bi-weekly paycheck) regardless you are full time/part time. If your not working, i suggest you get it as soon as possible. If you get sick or catch a disease, you will still be treated by any hospital/clinic by the right doctor but you will be STUCK WITH A BIG FAT BILL YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO PAY. I’m talking thousands &amp: thousands of dollars. If you can’t pay them, you WILL BE SUED. that’s a promise. The world now a days is cruel, some hospitals won’t help you, no doctors will see you if you don’t have Health Insurance, they will send your sick butt packin’! depending on what state you live in, usually they can’t refuse to treat you, but they have the right to BILL YOU. So, please….for your own sake, be smart &amp: GET HEALTH INSURANCE TODAY. Paying for out of pocket is better then paying thousands of dollars. Health Insurance will save your life!

You can talk to a guidance counselor at your school who may be able to recommend some things, but you have a few options. Most states have insurance programs (not federals programs, these are different). You would have to do some research depending on the state you live in, and what their requirements are.

Also, many colleges offer health insurance to their students, so I would recommend talking to your future college to see if they offer a health insurance program. It looks like you already talked to them about it. If they don’t cover dental/vision, you can try clinics for your teeth. If your school has a dental program, you will be able to have your wisdom teeth taken out for a very discounted rate. It can possibly still be expensive depending on what type of anesthetics are offered and the position of your teeth. I would highly recommend that you at least consider the student insurance for now until you can find a better plan or can find a dental/vision plan somewhere else.

If you can work, I recommend you stay away from ‘mom and pop’ types of business as they really don’t always offer insurance benefits.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield also have individual insurance plans, but they can be very expensive.

I amm going to give you some advice that will save you tons of money over your college years. While attending the university you should first check out the services offered by your student health center. Usually, there is no Dr’s office fee and testing, medication are done and given with little or no profit. As for the dental and vision they are a rip-off for individual policies. They are great benefits when they come from an employer group policy but it is a whole different kind of insurance. If you still want insurance check on the cost of the student health policy offered by a selected health company by your university. If you are still not satisfied go to one of the popular Internet sites like http://www.lvhealthins.com and get a quote and buy it.

Many schools have low cost coverage you can pay for. The school I went to had a university hospital so that was free to students. But every school has center for students to visit when they are sick. (At least the bigger ones) If all else fails, you can buy health insurance through an agent on your own. It will be costly though. You really need car insurance. It is fairly cheap if you have a good record with no accidents. I pay $100 a month for my car insurance but it depends on a lot of factors such as your deductable, driving record, age, state, etc.

If you drive without insurance you are breaking the law and if somebody hits you and its not your fault, you will still go to jail when you have to explain to the other driver that you dont have insurance. If you hurt somebody and they decide to sue you, you could be paying for their injuries for years. If you are working on a job and they do not provide insurance, then you need to leave that job. Most people in usa work a job that gives them health and dental insurance and purchase car insurance through companies like progressive and geico. You can find jobs like that by looking on careerbuilder.com for jobs. They usually post in the listings if they offer health or dental. Also, stay away from www.ehealthinsurance.com. They are a huge scam and they ripped me off. Most of the insurance plans they offer are scammers. I went through assurant insurance and they scammed me big time. I signed up for a &quot:2 month temporary insurance plan&quot: and they continued to charge me after the 2 months and didnt even cover me for doctors visits until after the 2 months!!! I got a letter from them after I had canceled stating that my coverage had just been activated. www.assurant.com is a huge scam. Stay Away from them.

I know a good site that can help you find the most suitable health insurance for you:http://healthinsurancecheck.org/compare-healthinsurance-companies
Health insurance is against the risk of incurring medical expenses among individuals. There are a lot of health insurance companies, which one to choose depends on your personal needs, your marital status and the coverage you want.

I recommend that you visit this website where you can compare quotes from different companies: http://insure-cheap.info/index.html?src=…
