Used car buying advice, BMW or Mazda with high mileage?

I like the BMW 3 series and the Mazda 6, and I know they are both good cars, but…. I feel a bit put off buying one that has quite a high mileage, as I have a budget. Is it worth buying a BMW that is 5 or 6 years old and has already done anything between 60 – 100k miles? It feels kind of like buying a 10 year old pet cat if you know what I mean! Are Mazda as reliable as BMW?

Out of the two I would probably chose the BMW but if I could get the Mazda for the same price with much less mileage I would find it hard to decide.

Any advice?

Mazda’s come with a 4 year, 50K mile bumper to bumper warranty, so if you could find a late model Mazda 6, it might be a better choice. I would stay away from the 2.3L 4cyl Mazda 6. The V6 models have a reliable 3.0L that has VVT, gets good fuel economy, and has great acceleration.

The BMW will probably drive better and have more toys, however it also would cost quite a bit more if you were looking at identical year models with identical mileage. Good Luck and I hope this helps.

I would take the Mazda. Simple economics. The parts for the bmw are way more expensive than the Mazda. I had a Mazda pickup. It was totally reliable.

The fact that almost any Ford tech can fix the Mazda is also another plus. The beemer will leave you waiting on parts and at the mercy of the more highly-skilled tech.

In fairness, I must add that 60 – 100 k on either car is not excessive. Depending, of course, on maintenance. I have found that many high-end import owners keep the oil changed and more accurate records. The Mazda is not so high-dollar, ergo: The Mazda driver doesn’t value the investment as dearly.

mazdas are great cars, now i too would be in a slight dilema, the bmw has sob appeal and just makes you simlie and think you have done good with life, however the madza is like the under dog, you may regret buying the obvious choice afterwards, so think long and hard. have a good look at the interior and a test drive see which you feel more confortable. Personally i would go for bmw 320d but do not let otherdecide for you, think hard and decide for yourself because at the end of the day you will have the car not everyone else

BMWs are great cars and if you get one from a certified dealership, you’ll still be part of their warranty and service. Mazda are not high end cars and do not get the kind of service as with a BMW. If the car is well taken care of, ask the dealer for the service record and you should be able to tell with a test drive. Just bear in mind that BMWs may use premium gas only, and if your pockbook is a little short, and in this current gas guzzling prices, you may want to consider your althernative.
If it was a matter of affording a vehicle, BMW would be my choice. I know quite a few people with them, and after driving/owning one, they are spoiled.

I would go for the BMW. not because I particularly like them but because we bought a newish car with the BMW engine in and it has done 122k so far no problems!

its better 10 year old BMW than 2 year old Mazda 😀

NEITHER……………

THE MAZDA IS JUST ABOUT WORN OUT AND THE BMW WILL KEEP YOU IN THE POOR HOUSE.

i BOUGHT A 10 YEAR OLD 328 COUPE AND AFTER 10000 MILES ITS PUUURFECT

bmw every time
