Here is a treaty signed by John Adams, where in Article 11, it is claimed that America was not founded on Christian religion.
Authored by American diplomat Joel Barlow in 1796, the following treaty was sent to the floor of the Senate, June 7, 1797, where it was read aloud in its entirety and unanimously approved. John Adams, having seen the treaty, signed it and proudly proclaimed it to the Nation.
Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion: as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen: and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

Any rebuttals or responses?
And a youtube link for people that prefer to hear the info rather than read it.
I’m not going to rebut anything. You are absolutely right!
USA was founded by Christians. Not for Christians based on Christian principles.
Most founding fathers were Deists. Marginal Christians as best.
They specifically forbade religious tests. That alone is enough evidence they didn’t want to base their nations on Christian principles. All religions will be happy to forbid religious tests, but not for themselves.
":In God we trust": was put on money only during the Eisenhower administration.
The creation vs evolution debate is a last ditch effort of fundamental Christians. They can’t win based on arguments. All they can try to do is based on pressure and censure.
Do you have any idea why that document was written or who Joel Barlow was. Barlow was a poet and diplomat who had settled an issue with the Moroccan government to release sailors from ships that they had captured by what became known as the Barbary Pirates.
The purpose of the document was to relate that the US had no formal association with the Christian religion though many in the US believed in it.
As for the religiosity of the founders, many, including Jefferson and Franklin, were Deist whose ideas were that the world was created by God but that God took no active role in the way that things were carried out in that world since the creation. The Latin term is Deus Otiosus, inactive God, and that fits the common humorous statement that ":God created the Heavens and the Earth in 6 days and then went to Miami for a vacation and stayed there.":
Deism was very popular during the time of the Enlightenment era of European History and was very popular in the US at the time of the founding. The Resident Intellectual at Fox, Glen Beck, is trying his hardest to get people to accept that the country was founded on Christian ideals, but that was simply not true. The Declaration of Independence was basically a scalping of the philosophy of John Locke by Jefferson and Locke was a Deist.
This argument, useless as it is, will never cease, so don’t worry about it.
In 1785 several ships were captured by the Algierian pirates and taken to Algiers where they sent ransom demands to the US for the liberation of the crews. The government at that time, The Articles of Confederation group, had no authority to deal with them pirates and throughout the Constitutional era, neither Washington nor Adams would deal with the issue at all. It was one of Jefferson’s first priorities. Thus you get the Barbary Wars.
The founders were Christians, certainly. But America was not in any sense founded as a specific ":Christian": nation. The Founding Fathers, as most Americans, were well aware of the terrible, sectarian violence of the wars of the Protetsant Reformation. (something which many modern Americans seem completely unaware of) And the violence in Europe was not always between Catholics and Protestants. The Scotch Presbytarians, the Puritans, and the Church of England were, at different junctures, in violent conflict.
Therefore, the idea of an official church or religion was generally repugnant to them. Seperating church and state was more then a noble, liberal ideal. It was meant as a practical way to avoid the blood shed that had plagued Europe since the Reformation, some 200 years before. By specifically seperating government and religion, they sought to protect the people from being persecuted by a state sponsored religion, and by protecting the state from being dominated by one faith.
It seems that modern proponents of the idea, that America is a ":Christian": nation are having trouble seperating our general, cultural heritage, and the very legal wall, that our Founders Constructed against any official religion.
Quite on purpose, the United States was never meant to be a Protestant protectorate, even if most of it’s inhabitants, then and now happen to be ones.
The attempt to apply the Treaty Of Tripoli to tutor united statesa. became not found on Christian values is an previous and susceptible argument. The treaty became word as to tutor that united statesa.’s Federal government became not a Theocracy. Which became the case in many of the different countries of the Barby Coast that have been governed below Islamic regulation. in this context it si genuine united statesa. isn’t a Christian us of a. even although while one seems on the massive documentation via a preponderance of founding fathers this us of a became certainly based below God. One has to look previous the petty re-writing fo historic previous in what we study in as we talk’s colleges and locate the genuine historic previous of this great us of a hidden away contained in the dusty pages of unread historic records.
The United States of America was created because people were forced to learn christianity so they came here for religous freedom. It was settled by many religions.
Ask the Indians
That is outstanding. This is something everyone should know about. Thank you for pointing that out.
laws are taken from the Bible
men who founded this nation were christian.
freedom to worship was originally freedom to worship the christian God in their own way and not the way the English and such wanted them to worship Him.
This is ":One Nation Under God": all the money you have is stamped with the name of God on it.
