How does a Christian stop suicidal thoughts?

How does a young Christian stop/overcome rampant suicidal thoughts?

This person struggled with them spontaneously over three years. And then they went away.
But now they’re back in full force, and the person is seriously considering suicide.

First off you need to recognize the source of these thoughts. Satan assigns demon spirits to everyone to attempt to destroy them by whatever means seems to work best. It is our responsibility to resist the devil and his demons by a determination of our will and faith in God through the Name of Jesus Christ.
Paul says this:

&quot:For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.’

II Corinthians 10:3-5

So you see by this verse we can take thoughts captive. We can do this most effectively by the word of God – combating the lies and temptations of the devil by the Scriptures. When Jesus was tempted even He did not rely on His wits, but He answered the devil saying &quot:It is written ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God’ &quot: (Matthew 4:4 quoting Deuteronomy 8:3)

Now we need to know first of all, the devil is subject to us when we are subject to God through the Name of Jesus Christ:

The seventy-two returned with joy and said, &quot:Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.&quot:
He replied, &quot:I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy: nothing will harm you. However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.&quot:

Luke 10:17-20

You see the most important thing is that our names are written in heaven. If you are not sure about that, here is how you can be sure:

if you are sure you are born again and you are not living in habitual sin, this is what you must do:

&quot:Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. &quot:
James 4:7-10

Now, when a devil tempts you in this way, you respond to this urge or voice saying: Devil, I resist you in the Name of Jesus. I belong to God, and am loved by God and i have no reason to listen to your lies. I am precious in God’s sight because Jesus died for my sins and washed them away by His precious blood. I command you in the Name of Jesus to leave me and you will leave, because it is written: &quot:sunmit yourself therefore to God – resist the devil and he will fless from you. &quot: Amen!

hen stand your ground in faith, not being intimidated or frightened in any way. God will help you. Now if you have had any occult involvement of any kind – confess this as sin – repent – stop doing it – and renounce it in the Name of Jesus.

The same way a non-Christian would. See a doctor and get the appropriate treatment/medication.

I know all too well what it is like to be begging God to take away uncontrolled thoughts only to have them return over and over, even during church services.

The Church would explain it by saying that you are hearing demons. The question is, are these voices saying anything this person has never heard somewhere else? If not, how does one know it isn’t in their head?

I think you may discover at some point in the future that this person is elligible for any one of these mental illnesses: Bipolar type 1, Schizo-affective disorder, anxiety disorder, or PTSD. Knowing the age of the person would help substantially, because early signs of schizophrenia or bipolar might be manifesting themselves here.

These voices are subconscious verbalizations and should not be treated as some entity’s voice. Encouraging someone experiencing these symptoms with notions of demon influence or spiritual responsibility for their experiences can lead a person like this down a very dangerous road.

Charismatic rhetoric is the worse thing you could hand a person in this situation. The best way to handle voices is to tell them to shut up while keeping in mind that they are only your own thoughts. It’s really not much different than getting a song stuck in your head.

I strongly believe there are evil spirits that can convey
thoughts to us. The bible teaches this. Jesus said
‘the truth shall make you free’ so the truth here is likely
‘these are evil spirits conveying messages to me’.
In fact, we can take this one step further and suggest
that satan is quite worried about the person actually
having an impact on satan’s kingdom else they wouldn’t
have these strong suicidal thoughts. Some affirmations
like ‘I put myself in God’s hands’ can help and then
getting into something called ‘flow’ which will be online.
Flow is a condition where you are really ‘into’ something
whatever interests you, like maybe music or reading
a great story or something. It keeps your interest.
Some people just love to garden and get wrapped up
in this. That’s flow. Some run and get into the ‘zone’.
So we need this.

I don’t see it as any different from anyone else: don’t end your life, improve it. Examine all the reasons you may be contemplating such a contemptible cop-out, and all your options for improving the situation. I mean ALL, including asking for professional help.

I’m the widow of a suicide. I am aware of a great many things my husband might have done to improve his situation, and suggested quite a few to him. But he was smart and could always think of a reason why it would not work. After he died, I looked back and realized he had planned this move for quite some time.

So you might add compassion for those you would leave behind into your considerations.

Yahoo answers is probably not the best place for this.

Call a suicide hot line. Get some counseling. Maybe there is medication that can help. A psychologist or pschiatrist needs to diagnose the problem and find a proper medical solution.

There have been interviews with people who wanted to commit suicide, but didn’t, and they said they were very grateful that they stayed alive, because their lives improved so much. Think about how much pain that would cause family and friends if they died.

P.S – It doesn’t really matter if they are religious or not. Counseling will help too.

If Christian faith is highly important to this individual, then various aspects of that faith may serve to provide strength. A favorite passage or homily from a priest or pastor may help.

More importantly, such a person should talk with some of God’s other children. A priest provides guidance: a priest can understand one of the flock and can direct such a person to the help or company required. And, family is there to talk with and help.

Never forget that you are not alone. God is here. His children are here. We’re meant to share our lives with each other, the pain and sorrow with all the joys of His earth. Don’t be afraid to share your fears with His children. And, don’t be afraid to share your fears with Him.

God bless you and help you find your way.

If your religion is truth you are content with it.. find Islam in the bible and then accept that Jesus was a messenger of God… he told us Mohammed would come.. JOHN 14:15. Mohammed preached the gospel and the prayers word for word the same as Jesus.. when he preached The Quran COINCEDENTLEY IT MAKES UP 75% OF THE BIBLE… Christians follow saint Paul… King James.. Paul converted to christianity way after Jesus had left and king james was king of england in the year 1587… Jesus left us around C E 4 !.. Jesus preached worship God… so worship God, Islam is God.. Allah is arabic for God and Dios is spanish for God but they are the same God.. other translation… study Islam because you are lost, you can feel that your soul has no point, your just waiting for hell, so your thinking you wana get it over with and find out already you cant be botherd, i converted to Islam after a thorough bible study of 8 months every day ! I have converted to Islam and so are:- 70,000 in france every year, 40,000 in the US every year, 100 every day in the UK, russia have 22-30 million muslims, CHINA has 22-30 million muslims, indonesia has 200 million muslims ! Why?? because we are worshipping God, the one who created everything including you and me and we will return unto him and have to answer for ourselves.. you gotta have somthing to go back with cos suicide will be GRAVE CHATISSMENT… awaiting hell !

First I’ll say, suicide is a sin, so that’s one reason to not do it. But getting on the more emotional side of it, you have to tell them their life is worth it. And that God created you to live a full life on earth first before you meet him after, and also that they are good enough for life. God didn’t make a mistake when creating em. Another thing, is this person saved? That’s the most important thing to focus on.

. Because almost everything, all external expectations, all expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment, or failure, all these things fall away in the face of death leaving only what is truly important.

Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know of to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked.

There is no reason not to follow your heart

They should really consider getting some professional counseling. From what I heard a lot of people get it and it helps.
