Christians: Why do you think the sanctity of marriage would be ruined if gay marriages were allowed?

Marriage as it is wouldn’t really be attributed with the word ‘sanctity’ given 50-60% of marriages end in divorce. Surely gay marriage would bring the sanctity back and drag the average of marriages that don’t end in divorce up?

It’s a bad excuse really. The Sanctity of marriage has been dead for a while.

Well, I’ll agree that the sanctity of marriage has been damaged for a long time, and your point on divorce is one I have been espousing for over twenty years. I would be joyous to see divorce laws made so that divorce is more rare, and difficult to obtain.
That said, why degrade marriage more? Certainly, if you use divorce as your excuse to mock those who oppose homosexual &quot:marriage&quot:, then you can understand that homosexual marriage certainly does do exactly what divorce does: it makes a mockery of an institution designed to perpetuate and stabilize society.
Now, the question becomes, do you support restricting divorce, or do you further want to erode society?

It would not be ruined by gay marriages – its already ruined by our evolving and changing value system when it comes to human rights especially those of women. Marriage was never meant to be a &quot:love&quot: story – it was a usable tool for alliances for generations, it was a method of money making in many countries that required a dowry from the young womans family, it was a way of bringing a &quot:almost enemy&quot: into your camp and dissolving problems with the neighbors. Women were chattel that the men in their family controlled completely …..no rights at all.

And staying married was the only route available – no one got divorced it just ‘wasn’t done’ in polite society – you said your vows you stuck to them.

Gay marriage will do nothing to marriage as an institution.

there is no such thing as the sanctity of marriage, &quot:marriage&quot: is not a scientific term, the meaning of it will change as society evolves. if you want my opinion, there IS nothing wrong with gay-marriage or polygamy. marriage should be defined by 2 (or more) people that love each other. that’s all it needs to be. there’s no excuse for denying polygamists &amp: gays shouldn’t get to experience the rewards such as insurance-discounts &amp: employer benefit options just because some religious folks say IN THEIR OPINION, it’s a sin.
Christians must realize that there is no such thing as &quot:objective-Morality&quot:. there are only decisions that benefit society &amp: decisions that hinder society. persecuting people on their sexual preferences isn’t beneficial.

It hhing you take it wrong. Pope John Paul II says if a couple is brave enough to go to the altar, God’s blessings are with all the family members (even if they break up one day).

Marriage if for man and woman, because God wants them to be one. From their genitals we could see that man and woman complement each other (and may bring offsprings) while in homosexuality this is out of the question.

Priests are not allowed to marry little boys, so they do not see why grown men or women should be allowed to marry a person of the same sex. They are probably just holding out for a TOTAL change in the law!

I just want to say all of you opposed to gay marriage YOU DISGUST ME!. How dare you deny people the right to be happy. You are no better then the people who enjoyed slavery when it was legal. You are denying a person their freedom in choosing who they can spend their lives with. Why should you care if 2 men get married will that prohibit you from going to your so called heaven in your eyes? No then mind your own damn businesss. I don’t see gay people coming up to you saying you should not be allowed to worship because it degrades knowledge.

1 Corinthians 5:9-13

New International Version (NIV)

9 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10 not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11 But now I am writing to you that you must not associate with anyone who claims to be a brother or sister[a] but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or slanderer, a drunkard or swindler. Do not even eat with such people.

12 What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 God will judge those outside. “Expel the wicked person from among you.”[

Paul wrote to judge those in your church and leave those of the world to be judged by god. What happens outside of the church is not for you to judge as right or wrong. You should not impose your beliefs on people who don’t believe them. If you don’t believe in gay marriage fine, don’t get married to a gay person and don’t allow gay marriage at your church. But you have no right to say that no gay people can get married and that’s coming from your own bible.

The truth is if people are determined to get their own way enough they will probably get it regardless of what Christians may think. But just think it’s all about the self and it’s nothing to do with God. It’s all about I want or I have to have it my way. Self centeredness is always about self.

Sexually isn’t about sacrifice it’s more about self and getting your own way even if it means hurting others. You go from one partner to another until gee you want to settle down. This is the most selfish song of all. He did it his way and doing it your own way instead of God’s is selfish.

God’s mercy is already here and it will be gone never to be given a second chance again. When the world get’s more darker and lacking with out real Love that does come from God. The world is going to see changes and people will show their true colours once God comes back for his people.

It’s not about the sanctity of marriage. It about the preservation of society. There are two sins God finds absolutely intolerable: child sacrifice (abortion) and the acceptance and promotion of a homosexual lifestyle. No society has ever survived these two indignations.

So true. Through their constant, hypocritical bashing, christians have taken an indifferent person like myself and turned me into a supporter of gay rights. Ironic, no?

I don’t, let god judge anyone, I AM NOT GOD
