Where and how should I assemble my cooking and baking recipes?

I love to cook and bake and have tonsssss of recipes all over the place, written down, on my phone, on my computer etc. and I’m wondering how I should organize them. Should I type them up on a computer? Write them all down…? Keep them in some sort of binder? I would prefer to have some kind of recipe book of just my own recipes, but I don’t really know how to make that kinda thing… sooo any advice would be helpful.

Try a program called Mastercook on the computer. BUT, back the whole program up (say once per month) on a flash drive in case of a computer failure. I did and I didn’t lose more than 500 of my own recipes.

I have two little boxes that hold a couple hundred 3 X 5 index cards each. I have not found a recipe yet that can’t be put on a 3 X 5 card. I use Word to type in 11 point on 110 pound stock, then cut to 3 X 5. The boxes are sold at Staples.

I type mine up and print them out to put in a binder.

When I used to keep my recipes on paper I got a binder with plastic sleeves to display photos in. I slipped each recipe into a slot for a photo. I liked it because I could put anything in those slots: a recipe card, a page torn from a magazine, a paper from the printer, a photo if I had one, etc.

Now I have everything on Google Drive so I can access them from anywhere I am.

I have mine on the computer and then I transfer them by SD to my kitchen tablet which is what I use for my recipes. Get LibreOffice it is free and just like Word. You can type them all in there. Then save as .ODT. Then save as .HTML You put the Recipes.html on the tablet. You can add bookmarks and hyperlinks to get to recipes quicker. It is a great system.

I like the idea of having a book recipes, I don’t like the idea of trusting your phone or computer, you are suppose to take care of those but mistake can happen. Possibly making a recipe book is the best an traditional. I like the idea of book binding for it. I found a binding tutorial for you if you want to bind.

This is not a food question. You organise them in the way that works best for you.

I have a small box of my wife’s and my recipes on 3.5 x 5 inch cards.

If I were starting from scratch, I’d download a notepad-like app for my smart phone that uses cloud storage, or storage linked to an email account, so that you will never lose even a single recipe.

Additionally, you could use voice commands to have your recipe read back to you by a smartphone or computer, so that while your hands are dirty, you don’t have to be inconvenienced. That would also save time by allowing you to keep focused on the immediate task at hand.

Just a thought. There might already be a hands-free cookbook app out there…
