Am I Wasting My Vote?

Hi everyone. I’m 18 years old and the election in November is going to be my first time voting. I’m really excited about voting, but I’m not excited about the candidates I have to choose from. I really don’t like Obama and Romney, for reasons that I’m not going to get into here, but I also don’t like having to choose between the lesser of two evils.

I’m seriously considering voting for Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party, because I like him and I agree with his message, but I’m afraid that I’m going to throw away my vote by voting for someone that has no chance of winning. Still, I would rather exercise my right to vote that many men and women have died to give me than not vote at all.

I guess my question is whether I should suck it up and vote for Obama/Romney or do what my heart tells me and vote for Johnson.

I remember when I was 18 and voting for the first time.

You have asked a very good question and it has a two part answer.

First of all every voter should follow their heart and vote for whoever they truly believe to be the best person for the office period.

Second if you do vote this way, yes your wasting your vote. The electoral votes are what counts not the popular vote and the reality is only the Republicans or the Democrats will get the electoral votes.

Some day this may change but for now it’s the world we live in.

And by the way, thanks for understanding how important the right to vote is in this Country.

Good luck.

You never throw away your vote. The population is not 3,000 and there are 50 states so your vote isn’t as powerful as you would ever like. Anyways, you are throwing a vote away for romney or obama that is sure but you are not throwing away your vote, you never are. You just know you will lose.

i idea so until eventually presently I gave this some idea, I easily have a buddy who’s vote casting for Bob Barr, also, I advised him his vote may be wasted, because Barr, no count how great he may properly be does no longer have a probability….My buddy advised me that the vote is major because it truly is telling authorities that some individuals are literally not pleased with purely 2 applicants to verify from….

Follow your heart all the way. If it’s telling you to vote Johnson, got Johnson. It’s the right thing to do.

The Primaries are over.
For November, you say your choice is &quot:I want someone else to pick Obama or Romney for me.&quot: Yeah. That’s a waste.

Do you want a president who will give all Americans a free pony?
Do you want a President who will invest your taxpayer dollars to make a time machine and kill baby Hitler with his bare hands?
Do you want a president who cares for the common american worker, and shows this by wearing a boot on his head?
If you said yes to any of these, vote for Vermin Supreme! The only logical choice for commander in chief.

Ditto. I can’t vote yet though but I was thinking about this earlier. I wish more people realized there are more than 2 options for presidet

You will vote by secret ballot. So vote for anyone you choose. No one will know, and you will vote the way you choose.

Yes it is, vote for Romney.
